STREET SCENES: PROJECTS FOR DC

Street Scenes: Projects for DC was created in the spring of 2006 by local independent curators to mount temporary public art interventions within the Washington metropolitan area. By placing art outside the confines of museums and galleries, the project brings innovative and challenging art experiences to thousands of residents, workers and tourists within the nation's capital.

Washington is rich with cultural institutions and cultural offerings But the goal of Street Scenes is to strip the walls away from exhibitions and collections--to treat the entire city as gallery space.

Street Scenes is co-curated by Nora Halpern, an independent curator and Vice President for Leadership Advancement at Americans for the Arts, and Welmoed Laanstra, an independent curator and Public Art Projects Curator for Arlington County, Virginia.

Street Scenes has been made possible by the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, Bill and Maria Bell, the Peter Norton Family Foundation, the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, Downtown BID, the Public Arts Trust of Montgomery County, Arlington Cultural Affairs, the Stewart R.
